Description
Murton Well is housed within a rectangular vaulted structure made of rubble stone. The vault has a brick soffit, likely from the 19th century, and the exterior is rendered. There is a round-headed entrance facing southwest, which features an iron gate. Inside, the structure is white-washed. Water flows through a drain in the sill of the gateway into an irregularly shaped pool that curves around to the southeast. The pool is bordered by 20th-century crazy paving. On the southeast side of the well, there is a cast iron water pump. This pump has a cylindrical stem that supports a narrow, straight-sided fluted bowl with a decorated spout and a long attached handle.
