Description
Langrove Cottage is a house of two principal ranges, originally dating back to the 17th century, with a further addition from the 19th century. The main range is two storeys high and built of rubble stone, painted pink, with a renewed slate roof and stone chimney stacks at the ends. The front has two windows, with the window on the right side, which was originally the hall, being the only one to have been enlarged from its original size. A stone gabled porch fronts the replaced door on the right end. A stack is visible on the left gable end. Set back against the right gable end is a lower, two-storey addition, dating to the 19th century, built of limewashed rubble stone, painted pink, and with a renewed slate roof and end stack. An original doorway in the 19th-century addition has been replaced with a window, and there are further renewed windows on the front. The rear of the original house has an integral outshut, skylights, and another outshut to the right. The 19th-century addition also features an outshut with a catslide roof.
Inside the original hall, a lobby provides entry and a single spine beam remains, cut for joists and featuring run-out stops. The fireplace lintel has a stepped stop, and a former bed cupboard is now a bathroom. The parlour has a fireplace with a rougher, segmental chamfered lintel. The upper storey retains a single segmental-headed door frame.
