Description

The Shireburn Arms Hotel, likely built in the mid 18th century, is constructed from sandstone rubble and features a slate roof. It is two storeys high and has five bays. The windows are sashed and have rebated and chamfered surrounds. The door, located in the third bay, has a plain stone surround. The fifth bay may have been added later, as it is set back slightly from the quoins. There are chimneys on the left-hand gable and on each side of the central three bays. At the rear, there is a window with a plain stone surround and a semi-circular head with a keystone, which lights a landing.

Adjoining the hotel at right angles to the east is the former stable block, which runs northwards. This stable block also has a stone slate roof and is two storeys tall. Its windows are modern, featuring plain reveals and projecting sills, with one window on each side of a plain stone door surround on both floors. At the south end of the facade, there is a blocked doorway, with a later projection above that connects it to the main hotel. At the far north end of the facade, a flight of external stone steps leads to a first-floor doorway that now has a modern porch.
