Description

Bailey House is a house, probably dating from the late 17th century. It is constructed of sandstone rubble and features a stone slate roof. The building has a cross wing at the right-hand (east) end made of squared sandstone and is two storeys tall.

The main block has a doorway at the right-hand end with a moulded surround and a moulded hood. To the left of the door are two modern windows with plain reveals, which sit beneath wider 17th-century hood moulds. The first-floor windows are mullioned, featuring an outer chamfer and an inner hollow chamfer in their surrounds. The left-hand window originally had four lights but now has one light blocked. The middle window has been reconstructed and now has three lights, while the right-hand window has two lights. The left gable is watershot and has a brick chimney cap, with a second brick chimney cap located to the right of the door.

The cross wing may be a later addition as it cuts across the hood of the front door. Its left-hand return wall has a blocked one-light chamfered window on the first floor. The front wall features a wide drip mould over a doorway with reconstructed reveals and a reconstructed two-light window to its right. On the first floor, there is a four-light mullioned window with an outer chamfer and inner hollow chamfer to the surround, along with a hood mould above it. The right-hand return wall has been partly reconstructed, with a first-floor window that retains 17th-century parts in its surround and a brick chimney cap. The rear wall of the main block has windows with plain reveals and a blocked one-light chamfered window under the eaves. There is also a later, lower wing adjoining the house.
