Description

Hey Hurst is a house dating from the late 17th century, constructed from sandstone rubble with a stone slate roof. It has a three-unit plan and stands two storeys tall. The windows are double chamfered, featuring hollow inner chamfers, with mullions and hoods. A gabled porch, which has 19th-century tooling on its stone, is located at the front. To the left of the porch is a five-light window, while to the right are two four-light windows. On the first floor, there are two three-light windows to the left of the porch and two more three-light windows to the right. The outer door of the porch has a plain stone surround with a chamfer. There are chimneys on both gables and to the left of the porch. The right-hand gable has a coping with kneelers, while the left-hand gable features a projecting stack with offsets. The rear wall includes two three-light mullioned windows at the left-hand end, which also have outer chamfers and inner hollow chamfers.

Inside, the left-hand room has a fireplace in its gable wall with a moulded surround and a false four-centred head. The middle room contains chamfered axial beams and a modern fireplace, while the right-hand room features stone dairy slabs and a later brick chimney stack. A datestone marked 'ID 1676' is set into a later barn opposite the house, which may have originally come from Hey Hurst.
