Description
The barn at Fair Oak Farm, built in 1724, is constructed from limestone rubble with sandstone dressings and features a stone slate roof. Internally, the barn is now undivided. The east wall includes a wide opening with a cyma moulded segmental head, which is likely a re-used 17th-century fireplace arch. The inner lintel of this opening is a re-used cruck. Above the arch, there is a crudely incised plaque with a bolection moulded border that reads 'JDP WP 1724'. On either side of this opening, there are chamfered door surrounds with segmental soffits to the lintels. The south gable has a modern wide entrance and two blocked shippon doors, both with chamfered surrounds. An owl hole is located under the apex. The west wall features a wide doorway that now leads into a later shippon. The barn retains its hardwood roof trusses.
