Description
Lower Lees Farmhouse is a house dating from 1678, as indicated by the inscription '1678 A E' on the lintel. It is constructed from rendered sandstone rubble and features a blue slate roof. The building has a two-unit central-entry plan with end stacks and stands two storeys high with two bays. A continuous drip course runs above the door and windows. The windows have an outer chamfer and an inner hollow chamfer. The ground-floor windows each originally had four mullions but now have two remaining, while the first-floor windows have lost two of their original three mullions. The door jambs are adorned with cyma moulding that extends around a shaped lintel. The right-hand gable includes a one-light attic window and a chimney that projects on corbels at first-floor level, likely original for a first-floor fireplace. A later-built projecting stack for a ground-floor fireplace has been added underneath. At the rear of the farmhouse, there are later extensions. Inside, the property features pine ceiling beams and a moulded shouldered fireplace from the 18th century located at the left-hand end.
