Description
The obelisk, dated 1841 by inscription, is located approximately 20 metres west of Bushell's Hospital in Goosnargh. It is made of dressed sandstone and features a square pedestal with a moulded base and cap, along with a fielded panel on each side. The obelisk itself has a moulded base and a ball at each corner, on which the needle appears to stand. The panel on the east side of the pedestal reads:
THIS OBELISK/ WAS ERECTED/ A.D. 1841/ WHEN THE HOSPITAL/ OF/ GOOSNARGH/ WAS ENLARGED/ AS A RECORD TO THE/ MEMORY OF/ WILLIAM BUSHELL M.D./ ITS BENEVOLENT FOUNDER.
