Description
Numbers 4, 6, and 8 are a row of three town houses built around 1830, with some alterations. They are constructed of red brick in Flemish bond, featuring sandstone dressings and a slate roof. Each house has a double-depth plan and is single-fronted, with Nos. 6 and 8 having adjoining halls and a rear wing. The houses are two storeys high with cellars and consist of two bays each. Number 4 has been altered with the addition of a wide two-storey canted bay. The doorway of No. 4 is located to the right, while Nos. 6 and 8 have coupled doorways. All doorways are round-headed, featuring gauged brick voussoirs, set-in Tuscan quarter-columns, and large fanlights with elegant radiating tracery. The windows of Nos. 6 and 8 are sashed without glazing bars, with raised sills and wedge lintels, while the cellar windows have similar lintels. No. 4's large late 19th-century canted bay distinguishes it from the others. The buildings have a plain frieze and a moulded gutter cornice, with chimneys located on both sides of the ridge at the junctions of the properties. Number 4 has a cellar area protected by simple cast-iron bar railings with ornamental heads and urn finials on the corners of the doorways, along with an integral boot-scraper to the right of the door. The matching railings from No. 1 Bushell Place continue to the right. Number 6 has 20th-century replacement railings, while No. 8 has none. The interior has not been inspected.
