Description
A pair of small town houses dating from around 1830, with alterations. The houses are constructed of red brick in a Flemish bond pattern, with sandstone dressings and a slate roof. They are arranged on a double-depth plan, except for the left end of number 12, which is single-depth and interlocks with number 14 Avenham Lane. The front of number 12 is double-fronted, while number 2 Latham Street is single-fronted. The houses have two storeys over cellars, with 4 windows on the front of number 12 and 2 windows on the front of number 2 Latham Street.
Number 12 has a centrally positioned doorway, originally with an engaged Tuscan column doorcase, plain frieze and cornice. The doorway has been altered into a window, but retains the fanlight with radiating glazing bars. Number 2 Latham street has a doorway to the left, with an engaged Tuscan column doorcase, a plain cornice, and a square-headed overlight; to the left of this there is a through-lobby doorway with a plain lintel and a geometrical traceried overlight. Each house has a window above the door. Number 12 has one window on each floor to the left of the door and two to the right. Number 2 Latham Street has one window on each floor to the right; all windows have raised sills, wedge lintels, and altered glazing. The left return of number 12 has one window on each floor, and an inserted doorway. The interior and rear of the properties have not been inspected.
