Description
No. 8 Latham Street is a town house built in the mid to later 19th century. It is constructed of red brick in Flemish bond, featuring sandstone dressings and a slate roof. The building has a double-depth, single-fronted plan with a back extension and stands three storeys high over a cellar. The facade has two windows, a plain frieze, and a moulded gutter cornice.
The doorway, located on the right, is framed by a panelled pilaster architrave with moulded imposts and an entablature that includes a cornice and blocking course. The door itself has six deep vertical panels. The windows are all sashed without glazing bars, with the second-floor windows being shorter and having raised sills and wedge lintels, except for those on the second floor. There is also a cellar window with grating. The rear and interior of the building were not inspected. Historically, this house was built on a former garden space situated between No. 7 and No. 9, and it forms a group with these adjacent properties.
