Description
Cuerden Place is a terrace of seven townhouses built in 1848, located on Latham Street in Preston. The houses are constructed of red brick in Flemish bond, with sandstone dressings and a slate roof. Each house has a double-depth plan and is single-fronted, featuring back extensions that have all been rebuilt. The terrace is two storeys high with cellars, presenting a 14-window facade that includes a string course above the first floor, a plain frieze, and a moulded cornice. The doorways are positioned to the right and accessed by two steps, featuring Tuscan doorcases. The windows have raised sills and wedge lintels; No. 22 has sashed windows without glazing bars, while the other houses have restored 12-pane unhorned sashes. A stone plaque at No. 25 interrupts the string course above the first floor, inscribed with "CUERDEN PLACE 1848". This terrace forms a group with a row of various earlier houses on the opposite side of the street, numbered 1 to 21.
