Description
The bridge over the former Longridge Railway, located on Deepdale Road in Preston, is a public road bridge likely built in 1846 for the Fleetwood, Preston, and West Riding Railway Company. It is constructed from coursed rock-faced sandstone and features a segmental arch with rusticated rock-faced voussoirs and a raised keystone. The bridge has broad battered piers, an ashlar string course, and parapets with ashlar coping. Notably, the south end of the west parapet curves around the corner of Burrow Road, while the east parapet has been partly altered; the north end was previously connected to an entrance for the former Deepdale Station and has concrete coping at the center. Historically, this bridge was part of a junction line constructed in 1846 to connect the Longridge Railway, which began operation in 1840, with the Fleetwood, Preston, and West Riding Railway.
