Description
Paythorne Bridge is a bridge over the River Ribble, likely built in the 17th century, with widening on the north side and renewed parapets, probably from the mid-19th century. It is constructed of sandstone ashlar and features two segmental arches along with two triangular cutwaters on each side. The solid parapets include central and end piers, a string course, and weathered coping. The arches on the southern side have ribbed soffits. The approach to the bridge from the north-west (Paythorne) has abutments primarily made of rock-faced limestone, which include two arches designed for floodwaters. Part of this bridge is located in Newsholme Civil Parish.
