Description
The Toll House is an early 19th-century building that was originally used as a toll house. It features squared sandstone construction and a slate roof, with an octagonal plan and two storeys. The three sides facing the main road have windows with plain stone surrounds: each outer side has one window on both floors, while the central side has a window only on the ground floor. The adjacent walls on each side are blank. At the rear of the building, the right-hand side has a door with a plain stone surround that has been blocked to create a window, along with a modern window on the first floor. The central side also features a modern first-floor window, and the left-hand side is obscured by modern extensions. The building is located on the Marsden to Long Preston Road, which was established under the Turnpike Act of 1803.
