Description
The Old Hall Inn is a public house, originally a house, built in 1598 with additions made in 1898. It is constructed from roughly square sandstone and features a stone slate roof. The building has a half-H plan, consisting of a hall range and cross-wings, and stands two storeys high with an attic. Each cross-wing has one bay, with a recessed centre that also has one bay.
All windows are surrounded by rebated and chamfered surrounds, with mullions, hood moulds, and leaded glazing. Most windows consist of five lights divided by a transom, except for the attic windows in the cross-wings, which are mullioned and have three lights. The masonry of the left cross-wing extends to the right, forming a two-storey porch beneath a separate gable that is blind except for a Tudor-arched doorway. The gables are topped with copings and finials. Above the right attic window, there are two stones inscribed with '1598' and 'RE RE RS'. The cross-wings feature projecting chimneystacks on their outer walls, each with diagonal shafts. At the rear of the left cross-wing, there is an extension in a similar style, marked by a plaque on its gable chimneystack that reads 'CTR 1898'.
Inside, the inner porch doorway is moulded and Tudor-arched. The dividing walls between the cross-wings and the hall on the ground floor have been removed to create a large bar area with a beamed ceiling. The rear wall contains a wide chamfered fireplace with a Tudor arch, while the fireplace in the right cross-wing is smaller, moulded, and also Tudor-arched. Other parts of the interior have not been examined.
