Description
This is a house located at 40 Main Street in Heysham, dating from the early to mid-18th century. It is constructed from sandstone rubble and has a slate roof. The house is two stories high and consists of one bay. The windows feature painted chamfered stone surrounds with stools for central flat-faced mullions, although the mullions have since been removed. The window frames are modern, made of brown-stained casements. To the left of the house, there is a door with a plain stone lintel and a quoined right-hand jamb. A chimney is positioned on the right side. The house is situated between taller buildings and has quoins only on the right side of its facade. Changes in the stonework indicate that the eaves and the first-floor window surround have been raised, suggesting that it may be a surviving bay of a once larger house.
