Description
The walls on three sides of the rose garden at Heysham Head are likely from the early to mid-19th century and early to mid-20th century. They are constructed from squared coursed sandstone rubble, with mostly semi-circular copings and curved corners. On the west side, there are three plain recesses designed for seating. The western wall serves as a retaining wall for the terrace of Heysham Head House, which was originally called Heysham Lodge. Two niches are located on either side of the steps opposite the house porch. Heysham Head House was purchased in 1923 by Septimus Wray, who opened the grounds to the public as Heysham Head Old English Gardens.
