Description
Heyhsam Head House is an early to mid-19th century house located on Barrows Lane in Heysham. It is constructed of sandstone ashlar with a hipped slate roof concealed behind an embattled parapet. The building has a rectangular plan with projecting buttresses at the corners. The east front features three bays, with windows having chamfered surrounds and sash glazing in a Gothic style. The central window on the first floor has similar Gothic glazing above French doors that open onto the porch roof. The single-story porch has round corner turrets and an embattled parapet, and the doorway is chamfered with a Tudor arch. The north elevation is largely blank except for a single bay on the right-hand side, which contains windows matching those on the front. The south elevation features one window on the first floor, and on the ground floor, one window to the right and an opening with Gothic glazing above French doors to the left. The rear elevation is roughcast and was reconstructed after the demolition of extensive 20th-century additions made when the site was used as an entertainment complex. The house was undergoing extensive restoration work at the time of survey. The interior has been considerably altered.
