Description

The Lodge is a house, originally built as a lodge to Heysham Hall, dating from 1870. It is constructed from squared sandstone with a slate roof, and has a cruciform plan. The east gable wall, facing Middleton Road, features a two-light chamfered mullioned window on the ground floor and a window with two pointed lights above, set under a pointed head. A two-storey porch, with a coped parapet, small first-floor window, and a chamfered doorway flanked by tall, narrow lights, is situated in the angle with a north wing. A diagonal projection from the south-east corner includes a bay window, blind on its sides, with a casement window in its front wall. A plaque inscribed '1870' is positioned above this window, below a parapet. The gable wall facing Heysham Hall Drive to the south has a stone canted bay window, with a two-light mullioned window above. The gables are finished with copings and ball finials. Two chimney caps are present on the ridges of the roofs.
