Description
The Malt Kiln and barn adjoining to the south, located on Whittington Main Street, is a house built in 1687, with alterations, and a barn likely from the late 18th century. The structure is made of pebbledashed rubble and has a slate roof, standing two storeys tall. The main facade features two bays, with ground-floor windows that interrupt a drip course; these windows are sashed and have plain stone surrounds. The first-floor windows are mullioned, consisting of three lights with rebate and hollow chamfer. The door, situated between the bays, has a moulded surround with moulded imposts and a shaped lintel inscribed with '1687 BDI'. To the left, there is a cart entrance with plain reveals and a segmental arch, above which is a two-light mullioned window. Inside the house, there is said to be a firehood bressumer and a spice cupboard inscribed with 'BDI 1688'. The barn adjoining to the left has a blocked wide entrance and other blocked openings.
