Description

The Old Rectory is a house, formerly a rectory, built in 1728. It features a rendered exterior with sandstone dressings and a stone slate roof. The building has a symmetrical design with three storeys and five bays, complemented by chamfered quoins. The windows are boxed sash style, equipped with glazing bars and plain reveals. The entrance door is framed by a surround of chamfered rustication, topped with a round head and moulded imposts. Above the door is a plaque that displays a carved shield of arms and reads: 'George Hornby Clerk A.M. Rector of Whittington erected this House 1728.' At the rear, the north wall of the wing, which appears to be part of the original construction, features a door with 15 raised and fielded panels, sheltered by an iron trellis porch. Inside, there is a dog-leg staircase with a closed string, a moulded handrail, and turned balusters.
