Description

Chain Lodge, also known as North Lodge, is a lodge to Quernmore Park, dating from around 1800 and possibly designed by Thomas Harrison. The building is constructed of sandstone ashlar and features a slate roof. The central section is two storeys high, flanked by one-storey bays on each side.

The centerpiece consists of two two-storey piers that are connected by a segmental arch, which is topped by an open timber pediment forming the gable. Between the piers are two unfluted Greek Doric columns in antis, supporting an entablature at the first-floor level. Above these columns is a window with an architrave and a segmental head, and between the columns is a doorway also framed with an architrave.

The side bays have slightly battered walls, windows with architraves, and an entablature with a blocking course. Each side of the central section features a chimney with a cornice.
