Description
Caton Lune Bridge is a road bridge over the River Lune, built in 1883. It is constructed from sandstone ashlar and features three semi-elliptical arches with a flat deck. The bridge has rounded cutwaters made of rock-faced blocks. The voussoirs are projecting and chamfered, with the date '1883' carved on the projecting keystone of the central arch. Below the partly balustraded parapet, there is a projecting string course. An inscribed granite block is set into the north parapet at the east end, stating: 'This bridge was erected under the provisions of "The Lancashire County Justices Act 1881" at the expenses of the hundreds of North and South Lonsdale and opened for public traffic the 6th day of August 1883.' Part of the bridge is located in Caton parish.
