Description
The workshop at Croskell's Farm, located approximately 2.0 metres west of the farmhouse, dates from the late 17th century and has been altered over time. It is constructed from watershot sandstone rubble and features a corrugated sheet roof. The building has a three-cell plan, which is unusual for the area, and stands two storeys tall.
The north wall, which was formerly the rear of the building, has two blocked chamfered window surrounds, with the right-hand one still retaining its mullion. To the right of these are a window with plain reveals and a one-light chamfered window. On the left, there is a higher blocked window that is rebated and chamfered, likely once used to light a staircase, as well as another blocked window with a timber surround. On the first floor, there are two small windows with plain reveals.
On the south side, there is a later lean-to addition that covers blocked mullioned windows and a blocked doorway that likely served as a lobby entry. Inside, the western room, now used as a shippon, features two chamfered axial main joists. The two eastern cells are open to the roof, and the west wall has a recess for a firehood that has since been removed. At the east end, on the first floor, there is a fireplace of 17th-century style with chamfered splayed sides, which probably served a first-floor parlour. The roof trusses have been replaced with softwood.
