Description

The Boat House is a former boathouse dating from the early to mid-19th century, originally belonging to Halton Hall. It was extended northeastward in the 20th century using salvaged materials from Halton Hall and subsequently converted into a house. The building is constructed of squared sandstone with rock-faced blocks used for dressings and the west wall, and it has a slate roof.

The original building retains a ground-floor boathouse function. The west wall features a wide boathouse entrance with a pointed arch, above which is a canted stone oriel window and a one-light chamfered window set under the apex. This gable is embellished with shaped bargeboards and a finial with pendants. The north wall now has a front door with a plain stone surround, incorporating rock-faced rustication and a triangular head. To the right of the door is a two-light mullioned window with double hollow chamfers and pointed heads to the lights, finished with a hood mould.
