Description
Middle Salter Farmhouse and the adjoining barn were built in the late 17th century and early 19th century. They are constructed from sandstone rubble. The original part of the farmhouse is pebbledashed and has a slate roof, while the later section features an asbestos sheet roof. The building was originally designed with an end baffle-entry plan and has two storeys.
The windows have rebated and chamfered surrounds. On the ground floor to the left, there is a window that was originally made up of four lights, with the central king mullion still in place. A door with plain reveals has been inserted into the right-hand lights. To the right, there is a window with one remaining mullion. On the first floor, there are two additional windows.
To the right of the farmhouse is a wide single-storey gabled porch with a stone slate roof and a door featuring plain reveals. Adjacent to this is a one-bay addition to the house and the barn, both built at the same time. The house bay includes sashed windows with glazing bars and plain stone surrounds. The barn entrance to the right has plain reveals and a segmental arch, with a pitching hole above it and an additional door with plain reveals. A chimney is located to the right of the original house.
Inside, the right-hand original room features exposed chamfered ceiling joists and a firehood bressumer with a heck post.
