Description
Border Side Farmhouse and the adjoining barn to the west date from the early 19th century, with some remains of the barn dating back to the late 17th century. The buildings are constructed from sandstone rubble, with the farmhouse roof made of slate and the barn roof of stone slate. The farmhouse features a double-depth plan, is two storeys high, and has two bays. The windows have plain stone surrounds and are mostly sashed with glazing bars, except for the left-hand ground floor window, which is modern. The farmhouse has gable chimneys and on the north side, there are more windows with plain stone surrounds. Between the two bays, there is a stair window with a door to its left. The barn, located to the left, has a lean-to addition and features a wide entrance with plain reveals and a timber lintel to its right. Further left, there is a blocked mullioned window. At the far left, next to the house, is a doorway with one chamfered jamb and a shaped lintel inscribed with '1676 IPE'. Inside the barn, blocked openings in the walls indicate that it may have once been part of a 17th-century house.
