Description
The Old Malt House is a house built in 1684, constructed from sandstone rubble and topped with a slate roof. It features a symmetrical design with two storeys, originally including an attic, and consists of four bays. The windows have rebated and chamfered mullions, with a drip course above the ground floor. The outer bays contain one-light windows, while the other windows are three-light, except for the central window on the first floor, which has two lights. The entrance door is framed by a moulded surround and has an elaborate stepped lintel inscribed with 'ROBART V 1684'. There are chimneys at both ends, with the left-hand chimney featuring a projecting stack. The left gable wall includes a one-light chamfered attic window. Inside, the ground floor has pitch pine ceiling beams, and the first floor has oak tie beam trusses. This building is an early example of a farmhouse with a symmetrical facade.
