WHITTINGTON MAIN STREET (east side) Barn on roadside, approximately 50 metres west of Low Hall
(Formerly listed as Barn on roadside, approximately 150 metres west of Low Hall)
GV II Barn, probably late C18 re-using some C17 dressings. Sandstone rubble with slate roof. West wall has wide entrance with chamfered jambs and timber lintel, under a canopy with cheeks. At the far left is a pitching door with plain reveals. The right-hand gable wall has three shippon doors with plain reveals, the central and left-hand ones blocked. Under the apex are pigeon holes, with an owl hole above. Adjoining to the right, beyond a straight joint, is a rear wing which appears to be a later addition. It has two doorways blocked to form windows, the left-hand one with plain reveals, the right-hand one with chamfered surround. Between them is a three-light rebated and chamfered mullioned window whose lower half is blocked. On the first floor are blocked breathers. To the right is a former three-light mullioned window, with one light blocked and one mullion removed. Inside, the main barn roof is of hardwood with tie beams and raking queen struts.
