Description
Sellet Hall is a house dating from around 1600, which has been altered over time. It is constructed from sandstone rubble and has a slate roof. The building has two storeys, with a facade that features a projection on the right, which was formerly a gabled cross wing. The gable has been removed, and the roof now has a pitch that aligns with the hall roof on the left side.
The two-storey hall is illuminated by a bay window that also has a catslide roof. The windows are rebated and chamfered, with mullions and transoms. Drip courses rise above the windows, although the first-floor drip course is partly truncated by the later roof. The former cross wing consists of three bays with cross windows; however, the right-hand window on the first floor has been removed and the opening blocked.
The front wall of the bay features a 12-light window with a king mullion on each floor, along with a cross window on each return wall. To the right of the bay on the ground floor, there is a door with plain reveals next to a blocked window. On the first floor, there is a cross window. To the left on the ground floor, a re-set doorway has a moulded surround and a lintel with a triangular head and inserted keystone. The building has chimneys on both the left and right sides, with the right-hand chimney featuring a projecting stack. There is also a large projecting stack against the rear wall of the hall.
Inside, the hall contains a fireplace with a moulded surround and triangular head. There are two doorways with similar details leading into the cross wing, where the rooms are divided by 17th-century panelling. An original doorway connects to what is now a 20th-century conversion of a farm building. Evidence of a former wing on the left side is indicated by the remains of a corbelled chimney cap and a recess for a firehood in the outer wall of the hall, which can be seen in the loft of the former farm building.
