Description

The Church of Immanuel is a church built between 1836 and 1837 by J. and T. Stones, with enlargements made in 1866 and 1867. It is constructed from coursed squared sandstone and snecked rock-faced stone, topped with a slate roof. The church has a cruciform layout, featuring a west tower, nave, transepts, and a chancel that includes an organ house and a side chapel added during the 1866-67 enlargement. The design reflects a simple Early English style.

The three-stage tower includes a porch with diagonal buttresses on the first stage, a door with a pointed arch, narrow lancets on each side, coupled belfry lancets, and pinnacles. The nave, which is buttressed and has four bays, features tall coupled lancets. The transepts contain two lancets each, while the chancel has three lancets with traceried heads.

Inside, the church has a wide nave with a flat ceiling and a west gallery, which is accessed by a pair of reflected staircases. At the east end, there are three pointed arches leading to the organ house, chancel, and side chapel. The north transept houses two stained glass windows in the Morris style, dating from 1897. Additionally, there is a traceried chancel screen commemorating the coronation of King Edward VII and a traceried oak organ screen from the early 20th century.
