Description

Lower Aspen Farmhouse is a farmhouse, probably from the late 17th century, now functioning as a house. It is constructed of watershot coursed sandstone with quoins and features a stone slate roof, which has two brick chimneys on the left gable and a stone chimney on the right gable. The building has a single bay plan, with an outshut that makes it double-pile.

The farmhouse is two storeys tall with an attic. There is a doorway on the left side, and a six-light stone mullion window with a hoodmould at the ground floor. The first floor has similar double-chamfered windows of two and four lights, all with hoodmoulds. The right return wall features similar windows in the outshut, including three lights at the ground floor (one light blocked and lacking mullions) and two lights above. The left return wall has one two-light double-chamfered mullion window on each floor, along with an altered ground floor window, all with hoodmoulds, and three small blocked openings. At the rear, there is a lean-to sunk dairy with a two-light double-chamfered stone mullion window.

Inside, the farmhouse has a large cambered inglenook bressummer that supports two beams with cyma-stopped chamfers. The ceiling joists are similarly decorated, and there is a timber heck post and stone stairs.
