Description

The Railway Viaduct, built around 1847 to carry the East Lancashire Railway across Tinker Brook, was designed by engineers J.S. Perring and J.A. Donaldson. It features rock-faced stone piers and seven brick arches, each spanning 40 feet and standing 50 feet high. The viaduct is topped with a stone band and a solid parapet. At the west end, there is an ashlar bridge with a low segmental arch made of rusticated voussoirs. The spandrels display radiating masonry, and there are balustrades and piers at both ends, which include coved alcoves and panelled entablatures with rounded coping stones. This bridge spans a lane that was formerly the drive to Foxhill Bank House.
