Description

This is a small marine villa dating from approximately 1845 to 1855, and has been altered since its original construction. It is built of brown brick in a Flemish bond pattern, with sandstone dressings and a slate roof. The villa has a double-depth, single-fronted plan with a rear extension. It is two storeys high and has two windows. The front features a plain frieze, a moulded cornice, and a blocking course. The doorway is positioned on the right, and has a doorcase with fluted pilasters, a panelled door, and a rectangular overlight with radiating glazing bars. Above the door is a narrow window with a raised sill and a chamfered rectangular lintel, with sash windows lacking glazing bars. To the left is a two-storey canted bay window with altered glazing. A chimney is combined with that of the adjacent property at number 14. The villa forms a group with numbers 13 and 14, and with numbers 15 and 16 to the right, and contributes to a significant mid-19th century seaside development of villas and boarding houses.
