Description
This is a terrace of three town houses located on Beach Street, Lytham. They were built in the early to mid-19th century and have been altered since. The houses are constructed of red brick in a Flemish bond pattern, with sandstone dressings and a slate roof. Each house has a double-depth plan and a double-fronted facade, with individual extensions to the rear.
The architectural style is Georgian. The houses are three storeys high with 3+3+3 windows, originally likely symmetrical but subsequently altered with the addition of canted bays to the right of each property. A plain frieze runs along the top, topped by a moulded cornice. Each house features a central, round-headed doorway with a stepped surround, a recessed wooden doorcase containing small pilasters and a cornice, and a semicircular fanlight. Numbers 2 and 3 have fanlights with radiating glazing bars, while Number 4 has a fanlight with applied lead tracery. The canted bays to the right of the doorways are at Nos 2 and 3 of stone and brick, while the one in No.4 is smaller and constructed of wood with a hipped roof. All other windows have raised sills and flat arched heads. Number 2 has four-pane sashes throughout; Number 3 has 20th-century casements designed to resemble sashes; and Number 4 has four-pane sashes except within the bay. The terrace forms a group with Number 1 to the left, which is of a similar style.
