Description

12 and 14 Park Road are an attached pair of houses built in 1824. They are constructed of ashlar, brick, and coursed rubble, with a slate roof. The roof is hipped at the right end and features double chimney stacks on the ridge, along with one chimney at the ridge. The houses have a double-pile plan and a double-fronted facade.

The classical style is evident in the ashlar facade, which features a moulded cornice and a plain parapet. Each house is symmetrical and has a recessed round-headed doorway with voussoirs, flanked by engaged Tuscan columns. These columns frame a panelled door with a fanlight containing radiating glazing bars. There are two sashed windows at ground floor level, and three above. Number 12 has modern sash windows with glazing bars.

The right return wall of Number 12 is of brick, laid in a Flemish bond pattern, with an ashlar basement and diverging basement steps. Behind it, a matching single-bay cottage projects forward. Inside, the houses retain contemporary doorcases and stairs with stick balusters and a curtail.
