Description

This is a row of four houses with basement loomshops, likely built in the early 19th century. The houses at numbers 2, 4, 6, and 8 Park Street include number 5. They are constructed from coursed sandstone, with a slate roof punctuated by four chimney stacks: three along the ridge and one at the left gable, all of which are rendered. The houses are two storeys high and have a basement level.

The facades present a uniform appearance. Each house on the right-hand side has a round-headed doorway featuring a semicircular fanlight, set within a plain stone doorcase with small impost stones and a keystone. To the left of each doorway are windows: a 16-paned window on each floor, and a 12-paned window above the door, all with simple stone surrounds. The basement level has three linked square windows, each with a large rectangular lintel. A small step well is positioned in front of the right-hand basement window, protected by plain iron railings attached to the front wall with a brace. Matching iron railings also flank the steps leading to the doorways.

The right return wall incorporates number 5 Park Street, which is built with brick in Flemish bond, featuring stone quoins and a basement. It has a raised doorway with a rounded head of gauged brick and a fanlight with radiating glazing bars. There are two windows on each floor, featuring stone sills and splayed stone heads with replacement glazing bars.
