Description

The War Memorial Gateway to Astley Park is a gateway arch, likely built in the mid-19th century, that was originally located at Gillibrand Hall and was moved to its current position around 1920 to serve as a war memorial. It is constructed from sandstone and features a semicircular arch with large rusticated voussoirs and a prominent keystone. The structure includes an entablature, a moulded cornice, a parapet, and piers that have tapered pilasters adorned with three intricately vermiculated bands. The frieze is inscribed with the words "PRO PATRIA 1914-1918".
