Description

The former gateway to St. Laurence's Churchyard is a Gothick structure dating from the late 18th century or early 19th century. It is built of brick and rubble with a coursed sandstone facade. The design features a three-bay composition that creates the appearance of two storeys separated by a band. The central section is battlemented, slightly projecting forward, and includes an arched doorway leading from the footpath, with a blind quatrefoil above it. The slightly convex flanking walls have ogival-headed recesses below the band and blind cruciform arrow slits above.
