Description

Engine Bridge (Number 84) is an accommodation bridge over the Leeds-Liverpool Canal, constructed between 1812 and 1814. The supervising engineers for the project were Joseph and James Fletcher, and the contractor was John Withnall. The bridge is made of graduated squared sandstone and features an elliptical arch with rusticated voussoirs that are painted white. It has a simple keystone, a band, and a parapet with rounded coping, along with pilastered ends. The deck is almost flat and the bridge crosses a shallow cutting along the contour of the slope.
