Description

Whins Bridge (Number 83) is an accommodation bridge over the Leeds-Liverpool Canal, built between 1812 and 1814. The supervising engineers were Joseph and James Fletcher, and the contractor was John Withnall. The bridge is constructed from squared sandstone and features an elliptical arch with rusticated voussoirs that are painted white. It has simple keystones, a band, and a parapet with rounded coping, along with pilastered ends that curve outward. The deck is almost flat, and the bridge crosses a shallow cutting along the contour of the slope.
