Description

The Lower Copthurst Farmhouse, dated 1764, is now a house. It was formerly listed under the name “Copthurst Lane”. The farmhouse is constructed of squared stone in diminishing courses, with larger quoins, and has a slate roof with gable chimneys. It has a rectangular, two-bay plan. The building is two storeys high. A central boarded door, featuring a rectangular lintel with a raised panel bearing scrolled head and incised lettering "B . two T M' 1764", provides access to the interior. There are flush mullioned windows of 3 lights on each floor, with slightly chamfered mullions, except for the window to the left of the front door on the ground floor, which has 4 lights. Renovation work was in progress at the time of the survey.
