Description

Top Lock Bridge, built in 1816, is a canal bridge on the Leeds - Liverpool Canal. It is constructed of stone and features a stilted segmental-headed arch that spans the lower approach to Top Lock, which is part of a series of seven locks. The bridge has buttress piers, bands, and parapets with flat coping. Its walls are battered and curve inwards towards the center. The bridge is structurally integral with the entrance to the lock, with the northern coping forming one side of the footbridge over the lock.
