Description

Stony Flat Bridge (Number 87) is an accommodation bridge over the Leeds-Liverpool Canal, constructed between 1812 and 1814. The supervising engineers for the project were Joseph and James Fletcher, and the contractor was John Withnall. The bridge is built from coursed sandstone and features a distorted elliptical portal with rusticated voussoirs and keystones. It has a band, a parapet with rounded coping, and pilastered ends leading to curved keepers, along with a sloped deck. The bridge crosses a cutting along the contour.
