Description

Brown House Bridge (Number 86) is an accommodation bridge over the Leeds-Liverpool Canal, built between 1812 and 1815. The supervising engineers for the project were Joseph and James Fletcher, and the contractor was John Withnall. The bridge is constructed of squared sandstone and features a distorted elliptical arch that supports a sloped deck. The arch is adorned with rusticated voussoirs that are painted white, along with a band and a parapet that has rounded coping. The bridge has pilastered ends and crosses a cutting between a high bank on the east side and a lower bank on the west side.
