Description

The doorway of the former New House Farmhouse is now an isolated archway situated on old foundations at the junction of two footpaths on the moor. It is dated 1672 on the lintel and 1612 on a datestone above. The structure is made of sandstone and features a triangular-headed moulded doorway with long-and-short jambstones. The lintel has raised lettering that reads:

"O THOV: OF: MIGHTY: MOST BLESSE: THEM: THAT: MADE T()()(C?)OST RP 1672."

Above the lintel, there is a datestone in a moulded surround, with raised lettering that states:

"ROBERT:PARKER AND: IANE: HIS WIFE: ROBERT & HENRY: THEIR: S ONNS: BVILT: THIS HOVS MAY 1612."

The doorway is located approximately 330 meters above sea level and is listed for its historical interest.
