Description

Hilton's Farm is a farmhouse dating from around 1730, with attached outbuildings to the northeast that were formerly a pair of cottages built around 1820. The structure is made of rubble sandstone and brick, all rendered, with a stone slab gable-end roof that is felted. It features internal end stacks. The layout consists of a single room on either side of a central entrance passage, with an integral rear outshut under a catslide roof that contains central stairs and service areas.

The front of the farmhouse has a symmetrical three-window range. The doorway has a moulded surround and a shaped keystone, flanked by three-light casement windows with glazing bars, which are under plain keystones. The first floor has one two-light and two three-light casement windows without keystones. The right side has a modern door and a small Yorkshire sash window. The rear has scattered fenestration, all of which are casements and frames from the 20th century in openings of varied sizes.

Inside, there are some planked and panelled doors with strap and H-hinges, a turned baluster dog-leg stair that is partly concealed but appears to be intact, and an original dairy in the outshut with slate fittings. The roof features side purlins. Attached to the house on the right and set well back is a pair of single-cell labourers' cottages that have been converted for farm use, featuring casement windows and planked doors. The later farm buildings form a group with the house and cottages.
