Description

The Wall Hey Pit Furnace Ventilation Chimney, built in 1840, is a square brick structure made in stretcher bond, featuring clasping pilasters at each corner. These pilasters create a recessed face on each side, complemented by an expressed plinth, an apex drip mould, and a staggered cornice. The chimney cap is missing, and all openings are closed. The pit shaft is 645 feet deep. This type of chimney was once common in the 19th century but has become rare due to the advent of mechanical fans.
