Description
Haighlands is an early 19th-century house, possibly with origins earlier than that suggested by a datestone inscribed “R E/1720,” which is believed to have been reused from another building. The house is constructed of stone with a stone slate roof. It is two storeys high with five bays, with the first bay projecting forward under a gable. Wide eaves and verges are present. Most windows are sash windows with glazing bars; however, the first bay on the ground floor features a canted bay window, and the fourth bay on the ground floor has a French window. Both the bay and French window have casements mirroring a style found at Haigh Hall estate. The main entrance has a half-glazed door and a timber trellis porch. Gable-end and two left-return lateral stacks are visible. A 20th-century conservatory is found on the right return. It is believed that Haighlands served as a dower house.
